Feeding Showbirds

by Tyler Greer
(Ohio)

There is a lot of people who will mix their own feeds, me personally I use commercial feeds. For instance Purina’s Game Bird Flight Conditioner is a good feed to use it helps the birds grown in feathers faster and stronger. If you want to add some kinds of supplements that’s your choice I have gotten along fine with not adding any. I will throw my birds fruits vegetables, moist dog food, and black oil sunflowers seeds, to add nutrition. The black sun flower seeds add a lot of shine to the birds which appeals to the judge. You don’t want to feed your birds a lot of corn, corn can cause brassiness in white feathers. The sun is good for birds it darkens the face, and makes the birds look nice. Then again on the same note sun can be bad, it can discolor birds and fade the feathers. So you want to keep the birds where they are not in the sun a lot but not completely shut off from the sun because the sun provides with them with vitamin D. Birds need vitamin D.
